Productivity Growth in Malaysia

According to Dr. Tamam, Malaysia’s labor productivity per employment grew by 5.4% in 2022, reaching a value-added of RM95,628 per employee. The manufacturing sector recorded a strong productivity growth, with the M&E subsector surpassing the national productivity level. This performance signifies robust economic activities as M&E companies expand their businesses post-pandemic.

The Role of Technology in Boosting Productivity

Dr. Tamam highlighted that embracing Industry 4.0 technologies is crucial for enhancing production processes, product quality, and consistency. The M&E industry has vast potential to enter international and high-value-added market segments. To achieve this, industry players must incorporate digitalization, automation, robotics, artificial intelligence, and mechanization into their operations.

MPC’s Commitment to Facilitate M&E Industry Players

MPC is dedicated to helping the M&E industry players increase productivity and competitiveness through technology. The M&E Digital Transformation Programme is an example of their commitment. The programme aims to foster the Malaysian manufacturing sector’s advancement towards IR4.0 and help 10 selected companies adopt smart manufacturing technologies.

The Importance of Productivity

Productivity is vital for increasing competitiveness, creating employment opportunities, generating high income, and improving people’s well-being. Malaysia aspires to drive 3.6% productivity growth, and digital technologies offer vast potential to enhance firms’ productivity. Digitalization is becoming an essential determinant of business competitiveness during and post-pandemic.

The Malaysian Government’s Support

In response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the Malaysian government launched the Industry4WRD: National Policy on Industry 4.0 in 2018. The objective is to accelerate digital transformation in manufacturing and related service sectors. The M&E industry has been prioritized, and various government assistance and schemes have been provided to adopt advanced technology.

Conclusion

The Smart Factory Transformation Programme’s launch signifies the importance of cooperation between the government and industry players in overcoming challenges and strengthening productivity and competitiveness. Dr. Mohamad Norjayadi Tamam officially launched the M&E Digital Transformation Programme, paving the way for the future of Malaysia’s M&E industry.
